Turns out an MIT-alumnus-founded company called !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! bought the tech !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . They’ve kept a tight lip about what manufacturers they’re working with to bring this suspension to production cars but their R&D center is reportedly full of BMWs.

Glad to see great tech not being wasted away.

I honestly was curious about what happened to Bose’s technology, because it really was bad ass. Can’t wait for these to change the suspension game.

I was wondering about this not too long ago, the original demos were so cool, then it just sort of went away under the guise of “it’s expensive and heavy so nah” - with cars getting heavier and more expensive (plus, you know, technology) maybe it’ll find application one of these days.

Bose actually did end up using the tech to create a better suspended truck seat so there’s that.

I’m convinced it’ll be used at some point. It makes way too much sense for autonomous cars for it to be ignored.

Still hoping this ends up in the Rolls Royce Cullinan. That’s my dream!

The potential benefits of this product would be far better demonstrated on a bog standard Ford Fusion or a Toyota Camry rather than an already very sharp handling BMW...

Ford made a fusion that skips over potholes. Voila.

Pole jumping was never going to happen and actually not as useful as pothole skipping.

Yeah I mean I could see a system like this making its way into something like the new 7 series which is full of new tech and almost 200 grand.

Even tho I’ve seen it before it still mind boggling. Like it can’t be real. It’s the uncanny valley of suspensions.

My S-Class with MBC and hydraulic suspension is similar to that but doesn’t work nearly that well.

There hasn’t been a sharp handling bmw made in decades

The pothole skipping doesn’t seem especially revolutionary. It looks like it just uses an adjustable damper (common in many cars nowadays) and momentarily slows down the rebound so the wheel doesn’t slam into the far lip of the pothole as hard.

Not saying it is a revolution, just nice feature that someone had to do first.

Bonus that it’s out in a normal car.

Now let’s see it skip over car sized potholes!

It was (at least Bose’s original designs) rather large and heavy, and required a significant amount of electrical power. and IIRC to pay for itself it would mean around $6,000 added to the sticker price of the car. it was novel and the concept worked, it just wasn’t practical. not sure how much it has advanced since then.
